A time lapse video of Brian Hoff selecting a font for a logo. I always say great design takes time. I think from the client perspective, computing tools remove “time” from the process. When in actuality, computing only aids in the decision making. Further more clients would like to think they are the decision makers. While designers just present options. I believe it is a partnership. Together we make greater decisions than either party would alone. Making certain that is clear upfront is pinnacle.
Electronicalrattlebag (Paul Greer) & Motley Glue /(Orla Handley) of BDH who won a design award from The Royal Television Society for this title animation for an up coming BBC series British Style Genius.
This short title animation is great work, stylish, British, and leaving this American wanting to watch the show.
Coincidentally Meaning Creative’s Esau Kessler has been working with Paul on a pet project for Jessica Taylor’s music microchannel “RockaBilly The Kid”. Esau developed the graphics, and Paul has been contributing content, while Orla Handley is currently “out of office” studing Rockabilly culture in Japan.

7 thought grapes for today:
- What is art in design?
- What current trends foster creativity, what stifle?
- How does digital art change the playing field as we move away from print?
- What will tomorrow’s music art look like now that discs and cartridges are becoming obsolete?
- In what creative ways can you marry poster art, with online communications?
- Is technology affording the age of “broadcast art” and providing true multi-media experience?

Was in a design chat with 37 Signals guy Jason Freid who decried the wonder of Drudgereport’s lack of design. My first thought is how wonderful that site could be.
“As a result, General Mills (who own Betty Crocker) altered their product, abandoning the powdered egg in their mixes. The requirement to add eggs at home was marketed as a benefit, conferring the quality of ‘home-made’ authenticity upon the box cake mix. (Whether using fresh eggs instead of powdered eggs actually enhanced taste was beside the point.)”
I like this story because it nicely sums up the progression in thinking from ‘just designing for ease and speed’ (old-school usability) to ‘designing an entire experience’ (new-school experience design). (via “Just add an egg” – Usability, User Experience and Dramaturgy- 90 Percent of Everything)
